Myofascial Release is done directly on the skin. Please bring appropriate clothing that allows for hands-on contact with your body. It is recommended that women bring athletic or loose-fitting shorts and a sports bra or tank top, and men bring athletic or loose-fitting shorts. A changing room is provided. Lotions and oils on the skin impede treatment. Please do not wear them on your skin the day of your session.

Please provide 48-hour notice to cancel or reschedule your appointments. Notice provided less than 48 hours may be subject to a $50 fee.

Myofascial release is a profoundly effective treatment for a wide range of conditions. It is often the missing link for clients seeking to reduce pain and improve mobility. Because fascia is ubiquitous (present throughout the body), its restriction can create extraordinary pressure in the body that does not show up in many of the standard diagnostic tests.

Review the list on the home page showing many of the conditions MFR helps. If you feel frustrated with a lack of desired results on your healing journey, schedule a session and let’s see if myofascial release can help. A complimentary 15-minute phone conversation is also an option. Simply email or call me (contact information is provided above)

Sessions begin with a check-in. For initial sessions, this check-in is typically longer. Then, after you have changed into your treatment clothes, we typically do a postural assessment to see how the structure of your body aligns while standing and then while lying down. You might also be asked to walk the hall so I can see your body in motion. The hands-on session then begins. I will work with the fascia based on the results of our check-in,  assessments and how your body responds. As noted, MFR invites the body to soften and release at its own pace, rather than forcing changes. Each session is unique.

It is not uncommon for symptoms to intensify briefly during the session or after. This is a good sign that MFR is addressing the issue and change is happening. The discomfort will pass as the healing progresses.

Equally, clients may have an emotional shift during a session. The tension we hold in our body is often connected to emotion-filled experiences in our lives. Such experiences stem from a variety of events like auto-accidents, injuries, wide-ranging traumas, or other impactful life experiences. This is also a part of the healing journey with MFR and are very welcome during the session.

Many people feel a beneficial shift after the first session and the healing often comes in layers so there is no prescriptive duration. Factors that impact frequency and number of sessions include current level of health, readiness for release, client budget and schedules. We work together to find the optimal schedule to support your journey.  Typically, at the beginning of treatment, visits are more frequent. And many people find the therapy supportive and beneficial to their overall health and wellbeing, so they continue to receive treatment even after their initial symptoms have resolved.

Everyone responds to MFR differently. You may feel tired for the rest of the day, or you may feel energized. Your symptoms may intensify for a short-time, or you may experience other symptoms, or you may feel great. Generally, I recommend taking a short walk (10-15 minutes) outside just after treatment to help your body to integrate the shifts experienced in the session.  After that, drink plenty of hydrating fluids. I may also provide some at-home exercise to support your healing. The body will respond to the treatment for up to two weeks after the session, so go gently, stay in motion and drink lots of water or the like.

Look for changes in symptoms and your overall sense of well-being. As noted above, MFR is an invitation to the body’s self-healing capacities. Overall, releasing fascia allows the body to find and keep its healthful alignment so results are unique to each client. Within a couple of sessions, you will have a clear sense of how MFR is helping you.

  • Acute intracranial hemorrhage as it may prolong the duration of the hemorrhage by interrupting clot formation.
  • Intracranial aneurysm as it may induce leak or rupture.
  • Herniation of the medulla oblongata which is a life-threatening situation.
